In 1992 she holds a PhD in Civil Law from the University of Ferrara.
From 1992 to 1999 she was researcher in Private Law at UCSC Faculty of Law, Milan campus.
From 1999 to 2002 she was associate professor of Economics Law at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Bologna, Rimini campus.
Since 2002 she has been full professor of Economics Law. Until 2010 she was tenured with the Faculty of Law at UCSC, Piacenza campus, where she was also Director of the Law Department from 2005 to 2010. Since 2010 she has been tenured with the Faculty of Banking, Finance and Insurance Sciences at UCSC, Milan campus, where she has also taught Institutions of Private Law.
From 2010 to 2021 she was President of the Board of Directors of EDUCatt, UCSC’s foundation for the right to study. From 2013 to 2022 she was Prorector of UCSC and from 2017 she also acted as Vice Rector.
Since 1 January 2023 she has been on secondment: she was first appointed by Pope Francis as Undersecretary of the Dicastery for Culture and Education at the Holy See, and - on 6 November 2023 - she was appointed by the President of the Republic as Judge of the Constitutional Court.
She has held numerous positions as director or member of steering committees of first- and second-level Master’s degrees (Master COFIN “Compliance in Financial Institutions” and Master CRiS “Crisi Insolvenza Sovraindebitamento” at UCSC; EBI Master in EU Banking & Financial Regulation (LLM) at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management), as well as of national and international research centres (Observatory on Private Debt at UCSC; Humane Technology Lab at UCSC; Research Centre on Cooperative Mutual Banking at UCSC; Crypto Asset Lab at University of Milano-Bicocca; “Grandangolo”, Paolo Ferro-Luzzi European Banking and Finance Law Interdepartmental Research Centre, Roma Tre University) and of PhD Faculties (PhD in Domestic and International Business Law at UCSC; PhD in Law and Economics at the University of Bologna).
From 2014 to 2022 she was President of Associazione dei docenti di diritto dell’economia (ADDE, Italian Society of Economics Law Professors); since 2015 she has been a member of the steering committee of the European Society for Banking and Financial Law (AEDBF, Association européenne pour le droit bancaire et financier).
Since 2016 she has been a member of the Academic Board of the European Banking Institute (EBI).
Since 2024 she has been a consultant to the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Holy See.
She was a member of the Expert Group on Regulatory Obstacles to Financial Innovation (ROFIEG) of the European Commission at DG FISMA (2018-2019) and Rapporteur for Italy in the Digital Finance Outreach initiative (2020).
From 2020 to 2023 she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Supervisory and Financial Information Authority of the Holy See and Vatican City State.
In 2022 and 2023 she was an appointed member of the Osservatorio nazionale antiracket e antiusura (National Observatory on Racketeering and Usury) of the Italian Ministry of the Interior (Ministero dell’Interno).
She has been principal investigator of several national and international research projects financed through competitive calls (PRIN projects, projects of relevant interest to the University, UCSC; projects sponsored by the Algorand Foundation; European Research Projects co-financed by the European Union – Key Action KA2 Erasmus+ Programme).
She has been on the scientific, management and editorial boards of several law journals, such as Rivista di diritto bancario, Banca Borsa e Titoli di Credito, Osservatorio del diritto civile e commerciale, Vita e Pensiero. She is co-editor of the series “EBI Studies in Banking and Capital Markets Law” published by Palgrave MacMillan.
Since 2020 she has been a member of the Board of Directors of Unione Cristiana Imprenditori Dirigenti (UCID), Milan, and since 2022 a member of Istituto Luigi Sturzo.
She is the author of approximately one hundred publications, including monographs, edited volumes and research articles in leading national and international scientific journals.
In 1991 she was admitted to Bar and until November 2023 she was enrolled in the Special Register for Lawyers Full Professors.
She was appointed by the Bank of Italy as a member of the Milan Panel of the Banking and Financial Ombudsman (Arbitro Bancario Finanziario) for the three-year period 2010-2012.
She has been an expert witness in Italian and European banking and financial law in proceedings before the High Court of Justice in London and before the International Chamber of Arbitration in Paris.
She has been an expert witness for the Bank of Italy in national court proceedings.
She has been a member of arbitration panels or sole arbitrator in administered arbitrations at the Milan Chamber of Arbitration.
